Mao is a clinical therapist at Reaching Resolution who has been working directly with children, teenagers, college students, adults and parents for over 8 years. During Mao’s free time, she enjoys traveling the Carolinas with her husband.
Mao holds her master’s degree in social work from Winthrop University and a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Mao Xiong is well-rounded with people from all walks of life. Mao has experiences with children, teenagers, college students, adults, and parents. Mao is passionate working with children to help them understand their emotions and to better communicate their emotions to their parents. Mao enjoys helping parents better understand their child, regardless of their child’s age. Mao worked with runaway teens, behavioral health teens, and teens in probation. Mao worked with children and adults who had a family member (mother, father, siblings) in the hospital.
Mao is comfortable speaking with families about grief as she worked in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and often had to dealt with death and/or complex medical diagnosis. Mao has been there for many families during crisis and will be here for you to help you overcome your own trauma. Mao worked with high school students and young college students from all different background, such as minority, first generation, and with students who did not take the “traditional” route that their family line had always taken. Mao supported many individuals through their tough times. She will continue to do it here at Reaching Resolution for you.
Anytime you see Mao, you will always be welcomed with a warm smile with a follow up question of “how are you doing?”. Mao truly means this and wants to be there for you. When working with age-appropriate clients, Mao enjoys using play therapy and CBT with younger clients. Mao often uses narrative therapy and CBT for older clients; and if appropriate, Mao uses systematic theory.
